Tungsten is a non-ferrous metal and an important strategic metal. The content of tungsten in the earth's crust is 0.001%. There are 20 kinds of tungsten-containing minerals that have been discovered. Tungsten deposits are generally formed along with the activity of granitic magma. After smelting, tungsten is a silver-white shiny metal with an extremely high melting point and high hardness. Tungsten is the metal with the highest melting point.

ADVANTAGES OF COOPERATION

Uses of tungsten:

Basic uses: About 50% of the tungsten ore mined in the world is used for the smelting of high-quality steel, about 35% is used for the production of hard steel, about 10% is used for making tungsten wire, and about 5% is used for other purposes. Tungsten can be used to make firearms, rocket thruster nozzles, armor-piercing projectiles, metal cutting blades, drill bits, superhard molds, wire drawing dies, etc. Tungsten is used in a wide range of applications, including mining, metallurgy, machinery, construction, transportation, electronics, chemical industry, Light industry, textile, military industry, aerospace, science and technology, various industrial fields.

Tungsten is widely used in modern technology in its pure metal state and alloy system state. The most important alloy system states are alloy steel, tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide, wear-resistant alloys and strong thermal alloys. Tungsten is mainly used in the following industrial fields:

Steel industry: Tungsten is mostly used in the production of special steels. Widely used high-speed steel contains 9%-24% tungsten, 3.8%-4.6% chromium, 1%-5% vanadium, 4%-7% cobalt, and 0.7%-1.5% carbon. The characteristic of high-speed steel is that it can be automatically quenched at a high tempering temperature (700-800°C) in air. Therefore, it maintains high hardness and wear resistance until 600-650°C. Tungsten steel in alloy tool steel contains 0.8%-1.2% tungsten; chromium tungsten silicon steel contains 2%-2.7% tungsten; chromium tungsten steel contains 2%-9% tungsten; chromium tungsten-manganese steel contains 0.5%- 1.6% tungsten. Tungsten-containing steel is used to manufacture various tools: such as drill bits, milling cutters, drawing dies, female and male dies, pneumatic tools and other parts. Tungsten magnet steel is a permanent magnet steel containing 5.2%-6.2% tungsten, 0.68%-0.78% carbon, and 0.3%-0.5% chromium. Tungsten cobalt magnet is a hard magnetic material containing 11.5%-14.5% tungsten, 5.5%-6.5% molybdenum, and 11.5%-12.5% cobalt. They have high magnetization and coercivity.

Tungsten DLC Coating

Use of DLC coating:

DLC film has high hardness and elastic modulus, excellent wear resistance and low friction coefficient, and is an excellent surface anti-wear modified coating.

DLC coating

1. Wear-resistant coating

DLC diamond-like coating has high hardness, low friction coefficient and outstanding high wear resistance. It is suitable for anti-wear coating of bearings, gears and other vulnerable parts. It is especially suitable for wear-resistant coating on the surface of tools. It can significantly Improve lifespan. For example, the DLC film-coated micro drill bit can increase the speed by 50% when drilling circuit boards, increase the service life by 5 times, and reduce the drill bit processing cost by 50%. Some nails, taps, and plug-in mechanical tools coated with DLC film can be exposed to the air for up to 7 years without being damaged.

2. Anti-corrosion coating

DLC coating can also be used for surface anti-corrosion of chemical equipment. The anti-corrosion test results show that the DLC membrane has strong protection against acid and alkali and has great potential for use. Carburizing the surface of austenitic stainless steel, and then plating a layer of DLC film on the carburized surface can improve its friction performance and corrosion resistance, reducing the friction coefficient from the original 0.55 and maintaining it at 0.20.

DLC coating

3. Solid and smooth

Because the DLC film has a low friction coefficient, it can be better used in conditions such as high temperature and high vacuum that are not suitable for liquid lubrication, and in environments that do not require cleaning. This function meets the requirements of aerospace and aviation materials.

4. Magnetic protection

DLC film can also be used as a protective film for magnetic media. Coating the surface of a disk, magnetic head or tape with a very thin diamond-like film can not only reduce friction and wear, prevent mechanical scratches, and improve the service life of the magnetic recording medium; but also because the DLC film has excellent chemical inertness and oxidation resistance Progress and stability are enhanced.
