What is Sheet Metal stamping?

To obtain the stamping parts with required shape and dimension, the press machine and die will apply external force to metal plates, strips, pipes and profiles, which will make them deformed or separated. This kind of process is called sheet metal stamping or stamping. 

The main blanks of sheet metal stamping are the steel plates or strips, which is hot-rolled or cold-rolled. In the world, 60-70% steels are plates, and most of them will be stamped into finished products.

(1)High Efficiency. 

The sheet metal stamping process has high production efficiency, convenient operation, and easy realization of mechanization and automation. This is because sheet metal stamping relies on punching dies and stamping equipment to complete the processing. The number of strokes of ordinary presses can reach dozens of times per minute, and the high-speed presses can reach hundreds or even more than a thousand times per minute. And each stroke process may get one stamped part.

1.Mold Problem

Generally, the sheet metal stamping mold is specialized. Sometimes, several sets of molds are needed to form a complex part, which precision and technology requirement are also high.

2.Safety Problem

The main problems or shortcomings of sheet metal stamping is the noise and vibration which generated during the stamping process. Besides, the operator’s safety accidents occur from time to time. However, these problems are not entirely caused by the stamping process or the mold, but the traditional sheet metal stamping equipment and backward manual operations. Of course, these problems will be solved soon along with the development of science and technology, especially with the development of computer technology and the mechatronics technology.
